1. ABLOY secures Jersey

Virtually every major visitor attraction on the Island of Jersey has been secured over the past five years by Abloy products. The Maritime, Jersey and Hamptonne Museums, Jersey Hospital, Longville Manor, Gorey Castle, the Public Services Department, all the Spar retail stores plus a huge number of restaurants and hotels all have ABLOY products.

So why the recent upsurge in the use of ABLOY products? "It's very simple and logical," explained Mick Burrell, Site Works and Security Manager of Jersey Heritage Trust, "Apart from being well made, the bonus for us is the fact that neither the lockcases nor the cylinders are affected by the corrosive effects of salt water. Most of our buildings are sited on exposed coastal areas. In the past we have had to replace every padlock twice a year. The other high security padlocks we used needed bolt croppers to remove them at the end of the summer season and again at the end of the winter period, due to the fact that the cylinder mechanisms had jammed.

"We were faced with the problem of literally thousands of corroded padlocks on the gates and doors of our heritage sites at the end of each season.

"However, since the introduction of ABLOY products, we have kept the same padlocks in place for over five years. And I can tell you they work as well now, as they did when first installed. This has saved us thousands of pounds and many hundreds of man-hours."
